Beware of Dusting Attacks

Beware of random coins that appear in your wallet that you didn’t buy. This is called “dusting” and it's a way for hackers to access your coins. Do not try to sell them or even click on them. Simply click on ‘Manage tokens’ (If you’re using Phantom wallet) and hide them. If you start getting more and more dusting attacks, I suggest moving your coins into a new wallet and simply disable the current one.

As another security measure, it’s best to keep less than $2,000 worth of coins in one wallet and have multiple wallets if you have more, especially $10k+. It would take more of a coordinated attack to hack 20 wallets, than it is to hack 1.

Here's an example. As you can see below, the real Asscoin that I bought is on top (green arrow) and someone airdropped 1,000 fake Asscoins (red arrow) hours after I bought. For beginners or people who aren't paying attention, it's very easy to make a mistake and try to sell these. If you do, more than likely your account will be cleared in a few seconds. With decentralized wallets, there's rarely any kind of customer service and not much you can do to recover your funds.

Real Asscoin vs Airdropped fake Asscoin

Please note that not all airdrops are necessarily malicious. Some new coin developers airdrop small amounts to random wallets, in order to inflate their wallet count. This is obviously unethical and deceiving, but it does happen. I want to make sure our crew is aware of it, in case they see a coin with an unusual number of wallets. One example is Safemoon from the 2021 bull run. They used this tactic (allegedly) and that’s the reason they had “millions” of wallets in a matter of weeks.

It’s a dirty game out here and it’s the wild wild west. Stay vigilant.

Protecting the bag is just as important as making it.
